People often ask me what I do, and when I start explaining my experience with recruitment and human resources I get mixed responses from business owners.
The phrase “human resources” in particular often brings a groan out of some business owners. Many find it complicated and believe that takes away time from the “real issues” of the business. However, human resources management is undeniably a crucial part of any organisation, and it’s important to make sure you’re getting proper, professional advice in that area.
Human Resources Management plays an important role in managing people and the workplace culture and environment. Issues such as compensation, performance management, safety and wellness, employee motivation, and staff training all have a lot of sway on the success of your business. It can contribute greatly to the overall company direction and the accomplishment of its goals and objectives when done well.
It is therefore in the employer’s best interest to ensure they are able to sufficiently manage their employee’s expectations, create a more positive work environment and engage employees at all levels of the business. And that means having someone who not only knows your business well, but also has the expertise, experience and time to manage all these issues properly!
If human resources is not a usual part of your position description, or you’ve just dumped it on top of someone else’s job description, then it’s likely it’s not being treated with the time and care it requires. That’s where hiring a professional (in some capacity) comes in. It doesn’t have to be full time, or someone who stays in the office all week. You can hire a consultant, outsource to a company – whatever will work best for your business.
Part of my job is to take on more than just the recruiting side of things. Your Screen Saver also offers human resources services, training and workshops. This is because they are very much intertwined, and having a solid understanding of one benefits the other – so I can ensure to take care of both and take some pressure off your shoulders!
Part of human resources management is to monitor the culture of your business. When bringing new staff in, it’s important to factor in how they will fit within the culture.
Your Screen Saver can take on one or all of the processes involved in recruitment of staff. When I need an expert in a field I don’t know and understand, I always seek external support- and you should do the same!
